The Hunger Games

Best Fiction for Young Adults
Collins, S. (2009). The hunger games. New York, NY: Scholastic Press.

A story where United States is ruined and now lies the Capitol (Panem) surrounded by twelve other districts. Each year each district must join all other districts in where they must fight to the death until there is one survivor left. This event appears on live TV and is called the Hunger Games. A girl named Primrose from district 12 is randomly chosen to participate but her older sister Katniss will take her place along with Peeta her community acquaintance. Representing district 12, they meet up with 22 other tributes.  They fall in love and along the way break the rules. At the conclusion of the Hunger Games, Katniss goes down in Panem history with a surprising turn of events.

This book is filled with great adventure, romance, and political suspense and the plot is tense. It is sure to captivate and keep the reader on edge. Recommended for grades 7 and up.  Other books written by this author include, Catching Fire, Mockingjay, and Gregor the Overlander.
