Fangirl

New Adult Book
Rowell, R. (2013). Fangirl. New York, NY: St. Martin’s Press.

Cath has a twin sister Wren who doesn’t want to be roommates in college and is leaving Cath to be on her own. Cath is unsure of how this year will turn out to be. She is the author of Simon Snow fan fiction and trying to complete her new book. Wren on the other hand spends a lot of time partying and spends very little time with her. Cath can’t help feeling worried about her sister’s out of control drinking. Ca also still suffers from her mother’s abandonment and her father’s bipolarity. Cath feels at ease when she writes but feels stuck when it comes to real life. Despite all her problems, Cath learns to manage it all except issues with her mother.

This is a charming and captivating novel. A book with complex subjects for discussions such as abandonment and mental illness. A book for grades 9 and up. Other writings by this author include, Carry On, Attachments, and Landline.
